Contrary to common understanding that 21st-century skills and knowledge are imperative for graduate success, through vast stakeholders’ consultation within and outside the country, Superior University found that traits related to character, such as lack of commitment, honesty, and integrity, are key concerns of employers. Feedback from international markets underscored a widespread view that Pakistani professionals generally lack strong character. Partially, it is because our academia focuses more on teaching facts and skills than on building good character. Fixing this is important to help students succeed in their careers, make better citizens, and eventually build sustainable communities. Superior University aims to address this gap by integrating character-building initiatives into its curriculum, ensuring that graduates not only excel in their fields but also uphold the highest ethical standards. By fostering a culture of integrity and responsibility, we are committed to shaping professionals who will positively impact society and contribute to a better future for all.
The Character Mastery Framework addresses the intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of character development. It equips students with essential virtues like integrity, resilience, and empathy, which are crucial for ethical leadership and personal growth.
For Prof. Dr. Ch. Abdul Rehman, the importance of character building has always been clear. Through his experience in education and business, he came to understand a profound truth: even the most academically gifted graduates—those who may achieve top positions in their fields—can fail if they lack moral integrity and character strength.
His view, is the true measure of success, not just in personal life but in professional endeavours. He believed that employers value trust and reliability over pure competence, and with research he found out that A gold medal from a prestigious university might open doors, but without the right character traits of honesty, empathy, responsibility—those doors will soon close.
By 2023, he had become deeply invested in this notion, convinced that Superior University had a responsibility to prepare its students for more than just academic achievement. With this in mind, he began working closely with the Director CAKCCIS and his team, researching character education models worldwide.
And hence, after combining up the entire crux of the rigorous exploratory research, he developed the “Character Mastery Framework,” perfectly drafted to instill these crucial 8- Character Virtues in students, ensuring their long-term success both in life and in their careers.
These virtues include:
The Framework is built around eight core virtues that include wisdom and knowledge, courage, integrity, justice, temperance, humanity, and transcendence. Each virtue is further broken down into specific character strengths, totaling 31 in number, which serve as guiding principles for individuals aiming to lead purposeful and ethical lives. This comprehensive approach ensures that students are not only prepared for professional success but also for making meaningful contributions to society.
Therefore, character education encompasses all intentional and unintentional educational practices that support young people in building positive personal strengths, known as virtues.
